ABOUT VALEUR COUTURE

Born in Brussels in 2022, Valeur Couture distinguishes itself through its sustainable clothing, crafted one by one with care.
Poetry, candor, and craftsmanship blend together to create original outfits for babies and children.

As each piece is made one by one by hand, every garment is in a way unique, just like the children who will wear them. Sustainability is also at the heart of the creative process. For the materials used, local sourcing is always prioritized. The fabrics are also all Oeko-Tex certified (which means free from substances dangerous to children, their parents, or the environment).

Timelessness and versatility are the watchwords when designing the clothing. The craftsmanship with which they are conceived and tailored celebrates those moments in life that pass all too quickly. Blending old-world style with modernity and being largely gender-neutral, Valeur Couture garments are an ode to the poetry and candor of childhood.

WHO AM I?

My name is Sacha and I am behind every step of Valeur Couture. I am 34 years old, I am a Bruxelloise (I am from Anderlecht, I currently live in Woluwe St Lambert but I have also lived in Uccle, Forest and Ixelles). I have also lived in London and Sweden.

I am the mother of a little boy born prematurely at 31 weeks on June 11, 2021. Being his mother defines me so much because it is truly my favorite thing in life. He is my ray of sunshine, my greatest motivation and source of inspiration.
I met his dad in 2015 and my family life fulfills me more than anything.

With Valeur Couture, I have the huge opportunity to not only highlight my two greatest passions, but also to create a link between them.

MY JOURNEY

Sewing has always been one of my greatest passions. I actually learned to sew at the age of 15. As a teenager, I did a summer internship with a milliner and another for over a year with a corset maker on Rue Antoine Dansaert in Brussels.

At 19, I moved to London where, alongside a full-time job as a waitress, I took several courses at the London College of Fashion for a few months. There, I learned the basics of pattern making, professional finishing techniques, fashion history, and the rudimentary foundations of managing a label.

In 2011, in a burst of self-confidence, I began selling my first lingerie creations. The experience paid off, and in 2013, I created a lingerie brand bearing my name.

However, upon the arrival of my son in 2021, I felt the desire to change my creative direction and open myself up to other things. Still centered around sewing. By the end of the summer of 2022, I was ready to launch Valeur Couture.

VALEUR COUTURE... WHERE DOES THIS NAME COME FROM?

In garment making, the term seam allowance refers to the area of fabric between the stitching line (where the needle has pierced) and the edge of the fabric. This is the part that will therefore end up inside the garment.

It is essential to any sewing project because without it, the fabric frays, the seams do not hold, and if you do not account for it, you will have sizing issues once your garment is finished.

I like this term because, I find, it is a very beautiful and very poetic way to name what will ultimately not be seen once the garment is finished.
